After playing baseball for both Post 22 and Yankton College, Shepherd returned to the Black Hills, and is in his 11th year as a coach with the program.

   Shepherd played for coach Dave Ploof two seasons (1970-71), graduating from Rapid City Stevens in 1972.

   He went onto a successful college career with Yankton College. He earned NAIA All-District and All-Area honors while playing for the now-defunct school.

   Shepherd returned to Rapid City as a physical education teacher for the Rapid City Area Public School System.

   He and his wife, Ann, have two children - Amber (26) and Andrew (24). Andrew played for Post 22 and in college at Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College and Oakland (Mich.). In fact, the father and son tandem spent three years coaching the Post 22 Bullets together.
